How'd you learn the HB

I've lightly used my HB and i think im pretty much ready to involve it with my riding but its a crazy transition for me 4 some reason, how long did it take u guys to get use to it and how did u learn to use it, like in a sit down or stag, or foot on seat, clutch up to HB.. let me know

ps: this is mainly for one caliper HB's

Re: How'd you learn the HB

I'm in the process right now ... I'm clutching up SS's and keeping them slow with the HB ... practicing using one finger on each.

Re: How'd you learn the HB

make it easy from the start, put in some workshop time getting the clutch as light-pull as possible (gotta be one-finger effortless). Buy a new, longer cable and route it around and away from headstock junk. Weld in 10mm extra length to the actuator lever on the case, buy new plates/basket, set it on the verge of clutch-slip.

Adjust the different positions for the levers so you can use both levers with one finger on each, without having to adjust your 2finger grip on the bar when you're using either lever. Index finger on really cut-down clutch lever. middle finger on super-bled brake-lever.
Get that setup right and use it in regular riding. After that it just becomes as natural as using the conventional m'cycle levers you've always lived with. I do't even have to think handbrake now, the skill is in the setting the levers up. If you do need to shuffle your fingers about to operate either lever - the setup still ain't right.

Re: How'd you learn the HB

ok well today during my lunch break i got to dia grinden and ground off some spare cast on my MC that made it impossible to run my clutch close to my MC but now its all good. i can put a finger on both and the pull is like a couple mm's on r6's so i can make it slip ez, R6's clutch engage thingy on the case goes torwards the motor and there'd be clearence issues.. but its all set-up now, i'll upload some pictures tonight

Re: How'd you learn the HB

just work on idle SS, clutch it up cover it with 2 fingers work on goin real slow....that will help make it ur relfex to hit to keep u fom flipping...then cover it with 1 finger once u get the transfer thing down, and go do em faster idle down.....it toook me acouple days to cover it in hc and spreader...the key in spreader is to hold onto ur cage as u clutch it up, to keep weight off ur arms, and the cover it with 1 finger.....

its ahrder to transfer and do all that shyt i think....plus if u hit the foot and hb at the same time with 1 master nuthing is going to happen...lol just turn ur idle up and try to do an idle SS.......i never had any trouble switching right away in ss, it gave me a lil trouble in spreader for a few days....

but doin it this way will make ur reflex to hit the brake when the idle is going to make it loop.....then once u get that, turn ur idle down and go faster

its jsut like learning touse the footbrake, u didnt just ,do a standup and use the brake to keep ur self from flippin, u had to make it ur reflex

just stand on the seat and clutch is up. not complicated, unless you've never done it before.

Re: How'd you learn the HB

put the clutch on the inside so the HB sticks out farther - then you can use one finger on each

Id leave it you get the best power and feel from the HB when its as far up on the bar as possible, if he moves it out he wont have good leverage and it will be weak
