Re: what do you like/dislike about your bike shop..

actually I love everything about the 2 shops I go to... Cycle Outfitters and Sport Bikes Unlimited. Cycle Outfitters is a bit more conservative... they have 65% of the parts I want on stock anyways, and if they have to order its usually a few days. The only thing that keeps me from setting up a tent there is I would spend way to much money.

What I like: They know me by first name, have all the common parts in stock, and give me discounts on parts.

What I dislike: Limited gear selection

Re: what do you like/dislike about your bike shop..

there are 3 shops around here i go to
Like:all 3 are owned by close friends
always have parts on hand
i get a discount, credit line or sometimes free
none of them are dealerships, so they have used parts on hand too

Dislike:there all closed on mondays.....makes for a boring start of the week
There always working so we cant ride alot ( when i had bikes)

Re: what do you like/dislike about your bike shop..

The parts guys don't know anything. I feel like I have to teach them just to get what I want. Even then I always worry if they ordered the right part for me. Also, they bill for more than they actually do (hourly). It's all good because it has made me become a better mechanic. haha!

Re: what do you like/dislike about your bike shop..

I work at a descent yami place down here.

Most oem parts shops have to order because if they kept every single part in stock, they would need a huge warehouse. they should have

1. Tubes
2. Tires
3.spark plugs
4.oil,coolant,cleaners, ect.
5.dirt bars, some levers, grips
6.brake pads, cables, batteries

this is just some stuff they should have in parts. this is what you need in apparel
1.helmets
2.gloves
3.jackets(cruiser stuff too)

its hard to say, we carry most of the **** you need now, like cold weather gear, lots of accesories that sell well. pipes, windshields, cruiser ****. basically whatever we sell the most, is what we WILL have in stock.

Most places have regular customers, and they need to be hooked up. Word of mouth is great for business, some shops break it off in everybodys ***, and then customers will find thier way to better shops, along with sales, parts, and a good service dept, you'll have people coming from all over to get treated descent.

just my .02

Re: what do you like/dislike about your bike shop..

I hate it when the people that work at a shop act like they're selling/servicing Ferarri's. I mean seriously, drop the 'tude and get me what I need, wrench monkey.

And price...

I've taught myself how to do my own breaks, chain, oil, filters, and some other random BS just because I'm not paying 120 dollars in labor for a f*ckin break change. Give me a break, it takes me 30 minutes to do front and rear.

Where do you local guys prefer to give your business? There seems to be a handful of us from the area. My bike is at Motorsports Int. right now for an estimate (got hit by a car) but I'd prefer not to give them my business.
