Longest stoppie on F4i??

Re: Longest stoppie on F4i??
only differnce i feel in 954 and f4i brakes is that the 954 brakes are more powerful..once a stoppie is balanced i dont see what the point of having powerful brakes is..same with wheelies..sure a 954 will come up easier but thats that make it better for stunting? not really..id say get a good front tire and damper then try to roll them

as far as the upside down forks being stiffer and better for stoppies. i disagree too. it might be the case for when your learning stoppies, your going slower and it may help bring your tire up faster. but once you learn to roll long stoppies, i think stiff suspension makes it harder to get the rear tire off the ground. ive noticed that on my 954 with stiff suspension the front tire doesnt want to hook up as well compared to slower speed stoppies. with softer suspension your bike dives down more throwing more weight onto the front tire causing it to grab and hook up better!
back to my previous post....either way will get the job done, one may be easier then the other, it just depends on how bad you want it!
:YEAH

Re: Longest stoppie on F4i??
I agree with Teach. I always had my 900 set up with basic Ferodo brakes (each pad looks like a bar of soap, they're so big) street compound. I like a smooth, progressive feel. When the bike is vertical, I prefer a slower reacting brake system. Forks are re-sprung with stiffer springs .95's or 1.0's and thicker fluid. Stiff is predictible. Dan is right, you do tend to push the front end more with stiffer forks, but if you adapt your style it's ok. I also have a trick I'll put cash nobody does, and that is drop the forks down into the triple about a half inch from stock location....The opposite of lowering your bike. You can tailor your bikes geometry a little bit for a different feel. The forks on my 900 were about 1/8 inch below the top of the triple clamps. This made the balance point feel much more stable, like that of an old school ZX-6, which has slightly more lazy front end. The above trick may work in getting you the same feel as a 929 front end. There are a few more tricks we'll show you in the Level-X stoppie vid.
P.S. I'll be looking at your triple clamps to see if you were listening.
Someone try it and let us know what your results were.

Re: Longest stoppie on F4i??
good stuff matt, i run a really similar set-up to teach but the lowering the forks in the tripleclamp trick is news to me! thanks! if i can get some free time next week ill try it out and let you know what i think.
right now i have a pretty solid feeling stoppie setup, nice balance and control, but im willing to try it

If you want stiffer forks, then mess with the preload and compression damping.

I also remember gorka saying that weak brakes are better; they give you better control when up near the balance point.

Re: Longest stoppie on F4i??
I seen Rommel rolling like 600+ft at stuntwars with stock forks and no damper

Re: Longest stoppie on F4i??
I plan on doing some stoppies on my f4i if I ever finish it. And if I find some rotors
PM me if you have F4 rotors!
