Thumbs down Starboyz Wheelie School

Anybody been?

If so, what did you think?

I tried the trial and error method of learning how to clutch standups on my minty new gsxr 600 last year and it didn't go so well... thinking this might help me from doing the same thing to my minty new 750.

comments, criticisms, and concerns welcome.

Re: Starboyz Wheelie School

Yeah if you just take your time you can teach yourself to wheelie. The starboyz school is only goin to tell you what everyone on here is telling you anyway so why waste the money to go hang out with "famous" stunters and get tips from them? Just so you can say that you were taught to wheelie by the Starboyz? If you used the search function you'd see theres already a post on here about that wheelie school and most people said it wasnt worth it unless you took the advanced class.

Re: Starboyz Wheelie School

I have f4i's post printed ... but there's a big difference between reading and doing.

I figured at least there would be a benefit to putting somebody elses bike at risk while I get comfortable clutching, since they provide bikes for ya.

I think it's pretty funny that three guys who've never taken the school will sit here and tell you what you'll be told/taught. To assert that you can "learn on your own" just as easily as you can be taught something in a controlled environment under the supervision of professionals is ridiculous. What's the deal with starting this thread with a thumbs down when you have had no experiance good bad or indifferent?

By the way, I've taken the class and it was the best $350 dollars I've ever spent.

TAKE THE SCHOOL!!!!!!!

lets put it this way....you can either pay $350

or you can learn like the og's did

Get injured $$$$$$$$
Travel long distances to ride with other stunters $$$$$$$
Learn what air pressures to run ??????
Wreck bikes $$$$$$$
Get injured $$$$$$$
Learn about sprokets and bars and cages $?$?$?$?$?$?
Wreck bikes $$$$$$$

and somewhere in the middle there you bought or borrowed a quad to learn brake control...

ok anyone wanna do the math??

Re: Starboyz Wheelie School

I said i was basing my opinion on the other post that was posted about the starboyz school.

And there is no way possible that you can say just because you were taught by them that your not goin to wreck or get injured it comes with the teritory of stunting **** happens.

Im just tryin to save the man money cause thats a crap load of money to spend on a class. I learned to wheelie in 2 months and never wrecked untill i started attempting slow stuff.

But hey if you got the money to blow knock yourself out. Doesnt everyone say on here anyway that its not the bike its the rider? Wouldnt that statement apply here as well? I was always coached in basketball and was never and still not very good at it... Thats basically the same deal. Its your cash man do as you wish, to me its a waste to blow money on something you can teach yourself if your patient.

Re: Starboyz Wheelie School

I thought about it for a good amount of time, and seriously considered it. Till I talked to Thew at one of the starboyz shows I saw and asked him about it. Basically he thought it was a joke as well... till he saw it. They give you a 600, have a class teaching the basic principles of a wheelie and how it's executed. Then they put you on the bike, which has a bar on the back of it. As the day goes, the bar gets shorter. Basically the bar acts as a comfort zone, keeping you from going back too far. He said it was amazing to see guys who, at the biginning of the day, couldn't even pick the front wheel up... and by the end of the day they're riding out 1/4 mile long wheelies. Call BS if you wish, but it sounds like a good idea to me. While it may not prevent you from wrecking your bike, and may cause you to develop a crutch when not having a bar to save you... it's still the fastest way I can think of learning to wheelie. Just my .02 on the subject. It's pricey, but if you really want to learn... it's a good base to start from.

How are my wheelies garbage??? I can hit BP on command and ride them out for a pretty long distance. I hadnt even been on 2 wheels befor untill i got my F2. I started trying to do wheelies 2 days after i got the bike and 5 months later am rocking close to if not farther than 1 mile long wheelies in first gear... but if you say there garbage you must be right.

I just cant justify wasting so much money on a class, id rather go buy a cage and 12 bar with that money and learn like everyone else, but this is just my thoughts on the idea

I know how to wheelie i dont need a class so why you pickin on me?

I will admit that going from not being able to bring up the front wheel to rockin any BP wheelie in one day is a hell of alot of progress so there obviously doing something right. Im not dissin the class in anyway. Just tryin to give the man some help with what ive already read in the other Starboyz wheelie school post. So get off my ***

they wont be riding balanced wheelies by the end of the day. he said 1/4mile wheelies, that doesnt mean they are balanced. you can chase a wheelie for 1/4 mile easily. i think the class is alright, but i wouldnt take it. id rather learn on my own, and i already have. there are some types of people that just lack the nuts to try on their own, and i think the class is good for them. im not hatin...

Re: Starboyz Wheelie School

Well, it seems like the most intelligent and thought out opinions given here lead me to believe that going to the school would be a good thing.

I doubt I would ever look at attending as something to brag about... but I don't think going make me a nutless wonder like snigs suggests either.

Like somebody said, if I've got the $350 to burn, why not put somebody elses bike at risk?
