Just My Little Bit Of Information. I Just Studded The Tires On My Yfz450, Used 2100 Studs. Instead Of Buying Those Ridiculously Expensive Studs I Went To The Local Fastner/ Hardware Store And Picked Up 3 Boxes Of #10 1/2 Diameter 1/4 Inch Tech Screws. These Are $20 Dollars For A Box Of 1000. I Dont Know If These Will Work For You Guys Ont He Street Bikes But I Know They Have Worked For Myself And Others On 50's And Dirt Bikes. I Started My Pattern On My Rear Wheels And Didnt Really Acknowledge How Many Studs Were Going To Be Ont He Wheels Thats Why I Ended Up At 2100. I Had It Out On The Ice Today And It Hooked Up Great. I Dont Knwo If You Guys Can Use These But If You Can You Sure As Hell Can Save Urself Alot Of Money.

Screws manufactured for motorcycle tires are hardened, and have drilled heads to make them sharp. Can cut you if you just bump into them. Really doubt if you could get a larger displacement motorcycle with HP to hook-up on harware store type sheet metal screws ...at least enough to wheelie. Save your effort for best quality. Once you have screws installed, don't let them touch anything but ice or a plywood hauler deck. They will dull on other surfaces. Oval race guys use tire wraps that are made of padded nylon and attach around tires with velcro, similar to roadrace tire warmers. ...or stretch a piece of inner tube around and attach with small 'S' hooks or bungees ...or just unload on ice only. Keeping em' sharp is critical for good traction. Hook-up on ice with a good studding should be somewhere between hard pack dirt & asphalt, and closer to asphalt. Keep your set-up tires in good condition in the offseason, so they will be easy 'bolt-ons' for the next season. Now traction for your feet is going to take some testing. Ice fishermen use strap-on boot 'Creepers' to save their tailbones. Creepers vary in design ...some have big cleats, others have small studs. Throw on some camo & head down to your local fishing tackle spot. Will post tire stud ding supplier info here tommorow.
SOME DETAILS AS OF 12/23/05...
Still finalizing date. Should be either last weekend in january or first part of february. Event course will be similar to a 'one-way' standard drag strip but shorter (1000ft.), and with return lane. Also an area for turning stunts, and a 'monitored & organized' testing area. Should have over a $1000 purse + entry fee pay-back. We will pay out as many places as possible, to help compensate for an entrant's initial set-up costs. Will have flyer to post that has all event info, lodging, etc... shortly. Get ready & get testing! Tom.

Just spoke with Kold Kutter Ice Screws. Screws are available through Turn 1 Distributing in Michigan, (800) 369-0001 -or- they can refer you to a dealer here in the Wisconsin area that stocks them. ...Found the attached pic on the website of On the Pipe Racing in Wausau, Wisconsin. Looks like they been hooking up on ice in the past... maybe they have studding tricks? Tom.

Tom, I don't know who's all going but some off us and others are going down south for stuntwars in fl. :YEAH on 2/12/05 and 2/13/05 . That is a very large event that we don't want to mis. So if your date lands before or after that would be really cool.
thanks

Re: ICE STUNT Competition? (PHOTO ATTACHED)
If held on a sunday, the date will either be 1/30/05 or 2/06/05 (superbowl sunday). I can also do it on any Friday night under the lights. Sign-up at 6pm with things kicking off at 7pm ...don't know if this leaves enough travel time for some that can't get outa work early. Friday nights would be a shorter/tighter program than a sunday afternoon. Won't do a date that conflicts with other's schedules & events like 2/13/05. ...the following weekend is Indy trade show ...& after that the ice condtions begin to fade away. Tom. ...I'll have this date set real soon.
PS... Found some good studding how-to info that I should be posting here tomorrow.
