Re: Your Opinoin Matters.......

i think its all in the marketing of the vid- people need to see it before they buy it. a good trailer is key.

second its the reputation- but this is just marketing again. sell yourself, you will sell dvds.

and we are the wrong people to sell you stuff to, because we see just about everything thats going on in the industry on a daily basis.

the only time i buy dvds is if im at a show, thats it. ftp4, sui3, get on up 2, etc.... look like some of the best stunt dvds ever made, but i wont buy them unless i see them at a show simply because i dont feel like paying 25 for the dvd and then another 10 for shipping.

Re: Your Opinoin Matters.......

depends on the riders, music, and the still shots on the cover on the video if i've never heard of them. I love supporting stunt riding. I buy a crap load of videos.
turnoffs: stupid skits, wack *** tracks, and out dated stunts.(you know, side skitching and what not....lol)

That is one reason why i like posting on this site. You get to talk to and read posts of the people we buy videos from. You get to learn if they're cool or if they are plain ********. I've saved a few bucks just from seeing who's the ******** and not buying their ****.

Re: Your Opinoin Matters.......

Revolution 20 o bore!!! Wow you're the one who bought it! I fell asleep before the start of the second segment. I say that with all seriousness. Music is as much of an element as the riding or footage.

I like to be entertained plain and simple, hands down the best bike video I have ever seen is 50 Nuts. Best money I ever spent on a video. Great music, awesome crash footage, hot chicks, drunken mayhem, the video kicks *** and I don't give a **** about 50s at all. To me 50 are a novelty and I'd rather not spend the money on one, but everytime I get done watching that video it makes me want to go buy one. Hmm maybe I should big bar kit, larger foot pegs, 88 kit, aftermarket exhaust, stiffer suspension...
Screw that can I just crash yours?

THIS IS JUST MY OPINION: unless you start selling videos in auctual stores (best buy for example) the odds of you getting that market is very slim, only way i can see you getting a good profit out of the non-stunters market is if you do ALOT of advertising

as for me, i fall into the poor/broke catagory, and when i do have money it dosent matter because i dont have a credit card, and when i mention using my grandparents credit card, they act as if i just asked to use their car in a demolition derby, most people i ask if i can use a check eather say no, or never respond, and that **** takes WAAAAYYYYY long when i pay by check anyway.

Stone Films and I are putting a film togother as we speak. Hopefully there will be a trailer by next week and a release date by feb or march.
If you are looking for a film with tons of crashes, drunk people,**** on fire,
hellicopters, and fancy stuff like that Do NOT BUY the new Tony D film.
BUT
If you are interested in some great riding in a lot of cool places with a bunch of great stories that highlight the good and bad moments of 2004 for me,and meet the real Tony D,not the ******** on MTV, this is the one to see...

good point, everytime i hear certain songs and I've heard them in stunt dvd's i immediatly think of that vid, so music is very important :YEAH

dont get me wrong i love this sport and everybody involved with it, i love to watch all of you ride, but in my opinion , you guyz are not the ones i would try and sell my dvd too,

You guyz have to look at the bigger picture,

the market you should hit is Males age 12-17, or kids in general. their parents have money, kids like **** like this...their parents have the buying power....not broke *** stunters and their buddies.

good point ryan, but i was just putting this here so people could voice their opinion and what not ya know

And no, there are no extra zero's in there. Now I know there are additional costs involved in marketing and pre-production but not enough to justify the 1700% markup. I have about 15 DVD's on my shelf and there are a few that I dont think are worth half of what I paid and there are a select few that are watched weekly and were well worth the cash paid out. I respect a guy, or a group, trying to make a living off of this but with costs of merchandise as marked up as they are it is really tough for me to justify the purchase of anything, from anyone, unless I know all of what I am getting beforehand, regardless of what any "unbiased" review says.

All that said, I say PRICE and TRAILER are the main selling points for me.
don't take this the wrong way but you are wrong. cameras cost money, video tape cost money, music licencing cost money(ha ha), travel costs money, the artwork, the printing of the artwork, the packaging costs money, an editor or an edit sytem costs money, the tickets that you will get along the way cost money, hospital bills costs money, bike parts costs money. and vendor space to sale the video costs money. Unless you have a distibutor than your unit price is $2 to $12.50. The highest selling stunt video I have heard so far is 35,000 units and the distributor sold most of them.
it's true that the dvd replication is about $1.10 to $2.00 a unit but you have to have something to put on the dvd.
and to answer the question the most important choice for me in buying a video is in person from the people who made it. I have bought too many over the internet and waited months for them. I will probably buy everything produced this year at the NY IMS in january. and if I pay for a video I never pay more than $20.

If you are in it for the money, then you had better put out some top quality ****. If your **** is garbage (1/2 of the stunt videos I own...including some from "big name" producers) then you need to get it to the buyer to help build your name, not your wallet. I have $1,000's invested in video equipment, computer, sofware, tapes, travel, etc. Music is free from local bands willing to help put their own name out there too. All said, my work is nowhere near the caliber of some of my favorite videos and I never expect to surpass them. I may be as good as the pro editors some day but as long as I am doing it for fun then I'll "give it away" in hopes of having my video on another persons shelf. You want a copy of my video, shoot me an email and maybe we'll swap or if I know you I'll get it to you for free (just shipping of course).

I speak from experience and love, not some googled information.

I don't want to offend you, but I was speaking from experience I made 2 stunt videos, and I made them both out of the love of motorcycles, not to be become rich not to show anyone up just for the fun of it. I own and operate a production company that produces/shoots/edits mostly in HD 1080/60i and 720/60p, in addition I freelance edit and shoot for the 5 largest media companies in the world. I've been in this business for 12 years and doing wheelies since 1976 so everything I wrote was all first hand knowledge.
