son of a bitch

**** the police, the kansas state highway patrol to be exact. got a ticket today for "improper display of license plate" because it is angled upwards if you guys remember. I stopped for him cause I didn't think I had done anything wrong, guess I should have just ran anyway. Oh the worst part, there is a required court apperance and it is over 2 hours away. I don't know what the **** kind of justice system Kansas has but to require a court appearance for having a ****ing license plate that is bent up is just a tad bit retarded. No, can't just mail in the fine and write FTP on the envelope and be done with it.

So now in February, I'll be driving over 2 hours each way to go to court for this ****. Damn, I shouldn't have stopped. **** **** ****

I just found out it's actually considered a misdemeanor too, that's why I have to go to court. It's not just a regular traffic ticket I'll probably just fix it then go to court with pics and say that I didn't think it was illegal. Plus I was thinking about all this when I was bored at work last night and I realized that I don't think that they can legally cite me for displaying my tags improperly in Kansas when my bike is registered in Illinois. That is like if someone from Missouri has tinted windows (where it is legal) and drives through Illinois where it is illegal they can't write you a ticket because it is legal where your vehicle is registered.

just one of many thoughts, but I have till end of February to think about it

Just send a lawyer in your place. The cost of the lawyer just may be less then missing a day of work and gas to drive there and back.

actually, someone on cycleforums.com found this for me. It appears as if I am legal there because the statute is very vague. In illinois I could actually be considered illegal because the law says the plate must be horizontal, but not in Kansas.......

The actual Kansas Statute is 8-133, and reads...

8-133. Display of license plate. The license plate assigned to the vehicle shall be attached to the rear thereof and shall be so displayed during the current registration year or years, and no Kansas registration plate for any other year shall appear on the front of the vehicle, except that: (a) The license plate issued for a truck tractor shall be attached to the front of the truck tractor; (b) a model year license plate may be attached to the front of an antique vehicle, in accordance with K.S.A. 8-172, and amendments thereto; or (c) a personalized license plate as authorized under subsection (c) of K.S.A. 8-132, and amendments thereto, may be attached to the front of a passenger vehicle or truck. Every license plate shall at all times be securely fastened to the vehicle to which it is assigned so as to prevent the plate from swinging, and at a height not less than 12 inches from the ground, measuring from the bottom of such plate, in a place and position to be clearly visible, and shall be maintained free from foreign materials and in a condition to be clearly legible. During any period in which the construction of license plates has been suspended pursuant to the provisions of K.S.A. 8-132, and amendments thereto, the plate, tag, token, marker or sign assigned to such vehicle shall be attached to and displayed on such vehicle in such place, position, manner and condition as shall be prescribed by the director of vehicles.

i still can't believe the cop actually gave u that ticket. u would actually think the cop would at least give u a warning. but like what was said earlier he probably had a quota to meet.

it kills me that for once in your life u wasn't doing anything wrong and on top of that u got a ticket.

oh you think that is bad i got pulled over by state trooper for my plate being bent then he said to me why is your taillight all scrapped up and i said (i'm a dumbass) from doing a wheelie so high that i was scrapin tail, and the ****ing cop then proceeded to write me a ticket for doing a wheelie when he never saw me doing and wheelie. it ended up costing me 900 bucks to get it fixed in court because ia lready have a cni (careless and imprudent) on SIS(sespended in sentence (dont count the point unless you get anohter ticket wihtin the year) and if i didn't use a lawyer to fix it i would have gotten licence taken away for 3 years and possiblity of not being able ot renew licence for 5 years. it was fuking rediculous.
