Finding the year of a DS80

I just picked up a DS80 from my buddy. It is in great shape, so I couldn't refuse. Bought it for $250, but I'm not sure exactly what year it is. I'm thinking its around an 87-91. How would I find out? I've looked on the frame and I didn't see any sticker that had the info or anything.

Does it have a vin # anywhere? If you gave me the last 8 digits I could tell you what year it was.

Double Check your vin again because if that vin is correct the bike is a 2000 model. I promise I'm right on this.

I think you have one digit wrong if you think its older than a 2000.

A have my vin chart right here in front of me. its part of what I do for a living.

I'm almost positive that it is not a 2000 model. It is an air-cooled 80. I'll go double check the VIN real quick - It is: JS1DC1335Y2101369

What color is it?

Below is a picture of a 2000 model but I'm not sure if they came in any other colors.

Sound like you got a good deal for $250...Sell it for $1000 and buy a 50.

It looks identical to that picture. Why would I sell it? Is a 50 better than this?

If you have to ask that question you have never ridden a 50.

True that is a cool little bike but it isn't a 50.........

You could probably get $1000 for that bike if its in good shape. Use it to buy a 50.

Yeah, I might do that. I'll have to think about it. I just automatically thought that since its an 80 2-stroke, it'd be 'better' than a 50. Who knows. I've never ridden a 50.

Trust me nothing is better to stunt than a 50. Find someone in your area and ride theirs. You will be hooked. Its most fun to ride with a BIG GROUP.

Your buddy must be an idiot for selling you that bike that cheap..... Did you get the title/paperwork on it?

Check out this one its used but if you bought it for $500 you could still have $500 left over from selling the DS80 bike.

The main reason I would get a 50 is for aftermarket type parts. I can really find any parts for this DS80?? Maybe I'm not looking in the right places The main reason I bought the 80 was for stunt purposes... I was going to learn circle wheelies on it. You think I should? Should I keep it for awhile then get rid of it and get a 50? I dunno

GET A FIDDY AND YOU WON'T REGRET IT...
seriously there's a hundred reasons why you should get a fiddy over whatever other crap is on the market. just the fact that it's a 4 stroke is a huge plus... regaurdless of what you're planning on doing (mx/stunt/freestyle/etc), a fiddy is the way to go when it comes to minis.

2 strokes own. Doesnt that have a straight pipe on it? If so, buy an aftermarket pipe and youll gain loads of power, if it has an expansion chamber. I hvent seen a pipe for one so i dont really know. All I know is the yamaha equivelent has a straight on it. And for you Mr. Silver Surfer, 2 strokes are the best. They only lack in bottem end and they have emission issues. But who needs bottem end? Shouldnt you be going wide open anyway?

I've had my share of 2 strokes. They were cool , but they were smokey and they were loud. For our city fun runs they wouldn't cut it. I like that DS80 but compared to a 50 with millions of cool aftermarket products they don't compare.

Yea, and they have to bottem end so you cant rock slow wheelies if your on a small bore bike. And to help you with power issues, I think that they have restrictor plates in them so take them out and it will be better.

Re: Finding the year of a DS80

Hey there! I was just trying to look up what year this old DS80 I have out back is and I came across your post here. It has a Vin that is real short. ds80-100171
that is what is stamped on the neck. I didn't even realize it was a Suzuki when I got it because it was red and in pile of other stuff.
imneverlast@gmail.com is my email. I have a bunch of old single cyl barn find type bikes here. this ones the smallest, and a few bigger ones, TT, XT, Elsinore 250, xl600, MX400B, all the rest are 90cc 125's to 175's mostly, all old school 60's up..

yeah though, when I saw it was a suzuki I was surprised. LOL I don't have many of those, 2 90cc Van Vans 1972, and a Honcho that is also 90cc, now this DS80. Hope I am not Bugging you too much asking.

Mike In Idaho.
