Stiff rear brake

Hey, just wanted to ask the masses before I make this harder than it has to be. My rear brake pedal is stiff, really stiff. Like I have to stand up and put all my weight on the pedal to lock up the rear. I checked all the linkage, good. The pads don't drag or anything. I was gonna go through it all and check it out, new fluids, bleed the system, yadda yadda yadda. Just wondering if there's anything I should check first.

p.s.- it's a 94 900rr. Also, last year right before I put it away, I accidentally got the spacers mixed up when I was putting up the rear, and the rotor dragged on the caliper bracket. It looked like some of the aluminum (or whatever material) got worn away and the pads had a little coating on them. So I sanded off the excess aluminum on the pads. Would this have anything to do with it?

Re: Stiff rear brake

buy new fluid and bleed it. if you dont know how to bleed brakes correctly have someone show you because you'll only make it worse

Re: Stiff rear brake

yeah that's number one on the list, I know how to bleed them. I just never had this problem before. I've only had to bleed the brakes when they're spongy, not stiff.

Re: Stiff rear brake

The pads are probably junk. Once they heat up alot they get glazed and they wont do much after that.

Re: Stiff rear brake

we had that problem on an f2. didn't have any brake pressure, but the pedal was super stiff. we bled them a couple times to flush out the old junk and then they worked fine.

Re: Stiff rear brake

It was the pads and the rotor. Scuffed them up again real good, and it was back to normal after a quick test run
