Need help! Battery keeps dying??

I was riding the other night and when i got home my battery died. i charged it and tested it and it is good. i even bought a new one, but it seems as I ride my battery goes dead and doesnt charge back up. This happened just one night all the sudden when we were going fast for a long period of time. Is there something that usually goes out on the 03 yamaha R6??? Can someone help please...
???

Test the volts at the batt at 4500- 5000 RPM. If its not damn close to 14.5 replace the rectifier. Its Probly smoked. Only other option is the stator but they dont burn often.

Or just do like I do w my backup bike and dumpstart it everytime. I LOVE running down the street next to my bike during rush hour. The looks from the 9-5ers is priceless.

Re: Need help! Battery keeps dying??

Most likely the voltage regulator, stators don't often 'go out' for no reason

r6's have weak voltage regulators, they are known for going out. I can almost guarantee that's the problem.

But you can test the ohms of the stator to make sure..

really hope you don't think they are looking at you in a good way.. They are thinking "why is he riding a broken bike, is he poor?"

they are giving you the same look as they give some white trash driving a beater down the street with all the windows broken out

I don't know about aftermarket, all I've known is to buy new ones

I had a couple friends with r6's that had problems a few times, and my old fzr was a nightmare for regulators

Re: Need help! Battery keeps dying??

I had the same problem. It was the voltage rectifier. Basically I was running the bike's electrics on battery alone, so the longer you ride the lower your battery is. The motor should be charging the battery and providing power. Good thing is it's an easy fix! Just replace the unit with a used part from a similar bike. MAKE SURE the part is compatible!
