the officer made a concious decision to risk his life at those speeds.

when i took my evasive driving course and swore in for duty as a military cop we are very aware that we have the choice to pursue or not. They also let us know that breaking the speed limits even in pursuit is still breaking a law, even as an officer. We never have the "right of way" in a pursuit. Our lights are only caution and yielding for an officer is voluntary.

At speeds like that through town, i never would have chased a bike. There are many more ways to catch him at a distance. He made a stupid mistake. I wouldn't be willing to risk my life over a stupid stolen bike.

I couldn't even amagine being locked up for 45Years. I've spent 3 total in placments, rehab & DFY when I was a kid and that seemed like 20 years. Time goes by so slow when your locked up.

I am also very suprised that they didn't cut the kid slack for turning himself in. I'll bet he thought they would go easy on him if he turned himself in. Guess he was very wrong.
