problem found on my 929 PICS NOW!!!....

so i drain the oil and no metal shavings were in the oil, so i decide to pull the clutch cover back off! Get it off and i'm looking at the clutch and see a lil piece of the clutch basket.... i'm like ****, so i pull the clutch out.... To my eyes i see.... I'M ****ING MISSING 1/4 OF THE CLUTCH BASKET!!!!!! so i'm like ****, i see a few war wounds in the motor from the pieces that broke off.... i'm gonna dop the pan today and see if any chunks are in there... if not they are probably gone by now!!!

for those that REALLY know something about bikes!!!!!!!:::: i was telling everyone how i had a BAD *** VIBRATION!! i think the reason is b/c i'm missing that 1/4 of the clutch basket and its throwing the balance off, true or not?? also, there is a gear with a chain on it and the chain is VERY loose.... could that be part of the problem i'm having???

thx 4 any help!

that piece of the clutch basket that is missing could EASILY throw off the balancing and cause a serious vibration. Think about how you mount a tire on a rim (car) and adding a 15gram weight will fix a unbalanced tire. That is probably the problem with the vibration.....I would get a new clutch basket before you ride it anymore.

there was a recall on the clutch basket and fuel line for cbr 929's. I know it was for most if not all of the 00 models, dunno about 01 models. I would call honda and ask. You may be able to get them to cover the clutch basket under the recall if it was one of the bad ones. Call the 1800 honda customer service line and give them your vin.

Wouldnt hurt if you can get it for free

DSOG Thomas will become famous soon enough
you will have to stick something in that small hole on the top righthand side inside the clutch cover and put some pressure on those two gears that are side by side to make the teeth line up so you can put the basket back in the bike....

you will see what i mean when you go to put the basket back in

later

Are you talking about the cam chain? That thing shouldnt be real loose. I swear I read about the 929s having bunk cam chain tensioners somewhere, you might wanna throw an APE manual CCT at it, its a cheap mod. ~$50? It would be worth it, especially on a motor with as many miles as yours has.

Honda's faulty clutch basket might have caused damage to your motor. I'd push for a new motor! Hell, it's worth a shot.

yeah there was a recall on that ****. your lucky. most people who had that problem had the engine lock up after the basket came apart.

Sweet,

When i called em on mine they said my 01 was not one that was affected by the faulty parts so I guess I got lucky.

That is sweet that they are covering the clutch for you. Glad I could point ya in the right direction.
