Teach, clear your pm box!

Teach, clear your pm box!
What up man? Hey I had another question for you, since I'm in Mass, wouldn't my buddy be better off getting a lower price on the bike rather than trying to get a good OTD price? He's just going to have to pay the taxes when he registers it here anyway, unless of course you have some connections with mass dealers? Anyways, thanks again.

a lower price, lower OTD, same thing...
the price is the price...there is no sales tax in NH, but you pay in when you register it in mass anywyas....the tax is unavoidable and is not part of the price...that price i quoted you is basically for like four or five more days...after that, it goes up and i can't guarantee anything....
i went out on a limb a bit, so whatever you do, don't leave me hanging!!!
just lemme know right away...
and that price is confidential until you pick the bike up!!!
later,
teach
ps. my box is cleaned out!

also, I think Mass State Sales tax is calculated on book value... not neccesarily how much you paid. So if you buy a car / bike for $10 off a friend and it's worth $7,000... they hit you with the $7,000 book value tax.
I could be wrong.... it might be for private sale only.

yup.... they have gift forms and you can avoid tax. I think you're only entitled to like 2-3 gifts per year or something. Both parties need to sign the form before you register it.

this is true. If you buy it from a licensed dealer -you only pay tax on the sales price - regardless of book value.
But it from a 3rd person. wham. full book.
