If the 954 has the same battery as R6, R1, and the ducatis. They are going to run you about 100 bucks. They are designed to lay flat and are a sealed battery. Mike might be able to cut you a deal at Nault's. As far as the original question about the battery being junk. Did you try starting it on one of those very cold days? If so, you are probably running some heavy weight oil and that is hard for any battery to churn around. I would say to keep the charger on it for a few days and let it warm up before dropping $100.

flametoe's right, plus pull the damn thing out of the cold. that'll solve the problem even better. Ignore the bike until spring thaw.

the battery will last for years that way

The best place to store your battery for the winter is somewhere cool & moist. (i.e. - under the sink)
