some opinions on oil....
LAst night I stopped to buy oil for my 954, Honda 10w-30 40 bucks, Honda Symthetic 70 bucks each per 12 bottle case, damn.
So I asked about the difference between the Honda Synthetic and the Mobil 1 (thats less than half that price) I put in my Jeep. He said, use the Mobil 1, its the same.
Prior to this bike I have always used Castrol GTX 20w-50. A good friend that races showed me an article saying that that weight and brand lasted and wore(viscosity wise) as well as any syntetic in high performance motorcycles. I used it for 19k on my Superhawk, 5k on a GS500 and SV650s and 5k on a Yamaha FZR. I experienced no problems and no odd wearing of my clutch, rings, engine etc. THe Castrol is like 15 bucks a case at Wal-Mart. I am about ready to just use that again.
Anyone have some knowledge about this stuff?
Chris

Don't waste your money on that expensive HONDA oil.
You can go to Autozone or one of those giant chains......get your filter and your oil for 1/2 the cost of going to the dealer.
Here is a cross refernce site I found. Not sure but the 929 and the 954 use the same filter. Dealer can tell you for sure.

The oil thing has been tested by scientists and all those smaht folks witht he conlcusion that the Motorcycle oil manufacturers are fooling us.
Just my 2 pennies.

Chris I found out the smoking problem on the Hawk. She no likey doing long wheelies ont he highway. Oil gets into the airbox via the crankcase breather tube.

Teach- it was Scotty I believe, bigger guy with a pony tail
Bri- Golden Spectro- reg, synth, where do I get it appx how much?
KB- The hawk does not make for a happy stunter, allthought it does like to chew on shoelaces.-watch out. Try going up 3 if you haven't yet, second comes up like first will stock with no clutch
Thanks to all.

I think I pay $60 for a case (12 bottles) of synthetic blend. 10/40. I am happy with it. I've been on motorcycles / dirtbikes since age 9 and NEVER ONCE replaced a clutch on ANYTHING I've ever owned.
Lata,
Bri
PS. And I've always ran Spectro
