Who has ghetto bar setups?

I just got my fiddy and it took most of the $$$ I had. I'm in college so money is tight. I was trying to figure out a way to use bmx bars with just a clamp bolted to the top of the tree. Who's came up with ghetto ways of putting new bars on and how much did it run ya?

And don't say just buy the kit, I can't afford it so its not an option.

If money is that tight then drill four holes in the triple clamp and use two use bolts just crank that ****er down tight so the bars don't move... if you have a little extra money you could probably piece together something off ebay...
I think you can get a triple tree for like 40 bucks if you look hard enough...

Buy bar clamps of a 4wheeler, like a 400ex or 300ex. Take of your stock bars off and bolt the clamps in the holes from the stock bars. I will try to take pictures tomorrow.
Mine look kind of like these

Re: Who has ghetto bar setups?

So how do you do the throttle assembly on the bigger bars? Do I need to buy a whole new deal or will the stock one work? Also did you have to get longer brake and throttle lines? Your guys setup are just what i'm looking for.

Re: Who has ghetto bar setups?

i think you can avoid getting a new throttle cable by re-routing it on the right side of the frame, but im not positive. if you do need to get a longer cable, it shouldnt set you back too much.

Re: Who has ghetto bar setups?

1. Take all your controls off
2. Take off your bars
3. Set your bars on the ground so the crossbar is raised up off the ground
4. step on those sunamabitches to flatten them out
5. Put it all back together

Works great until you get mo money for a good bar set up...enjoy :YEAH

yes if you use 7/8 bars (anything but stock) you need a throttle tube assembly, it's only $12. the take your cable and run it on the right side of the frame. your brake cable "should" be long enough, maybe not though. mine is at the limit.

Where do they sell them for only $12? So its just a larger plastic tube correct? You don't need a different run/off switch panel and brake lever perch?

Re: Who has ghetto bar setups?

talk about ghetto stomp em flat
what you do when the bar whacks your leg?
go to the bike junk yard in your area look for an old 100 honda
sl xl and steal the handlebar clamps off of it
they will bolt right up and they will fit the bmx bars because 90% of all bars are the same size and you wont be fubaring your triple so if you ever have to put the stock bars back on they will bolt right back on
i wouldnt drill any holes in the triple you will weaken it and it will break eventually especially if you start jumping it
it is what i run with no probs spent 5 bux for the clamps

Dude I thought this might be a good idea to do till i pieced together my bar setup off ebay. Well i tried it out tonight and those bars are friggin tuff. I had my bro on one side and myself standing on one foot on the other bouncing and barely bent them... were 300+lbs combined. Well when that didn't work I went to the basement and grabbed a couple 45lbs plates, set those ontop of the bars and then bounced on the plates.... still not much of a bend. Looks like they will just have to stay as is for now.

Anywho, anyone know where to buy the throttle tube cheap? And do I just need to tube or do i need the whole assembly that holds the tube and on/off switch, and brake perch?

the tube is just that, the tube and mount. the brake perch is seperate, i just used one off a bmx bike, also you don't really need a kill switch.

sorry the tube is $16, i thought i was $12
