this MUST be cheating....

So i went down to walmart tonight and picked up a $7 pair of steel BMX stunt pegs..

hooked em up on the fiddy.. unreal....

thats all i can say.. unreal..

i can't wheelie ANYTHING worth a ****..now i can do blox!

i ended up just leaving the left side one on because that enables me to stagger-step to use the rear brake..but i'm going to cheat even further and get a lefthand bar brake..

pegs make it so damn much easier..

in 2 hours of riding i went from barely wheelying 10-12 feet to being able to slow it down and turn HUGE circles.. i was ridin up driveways and stuff with it like this..

other than the peg scraping on hard left handers, its a dream come true..

and it only cost a total of $10!

I know it cost more than $10 but I felt the same way when I got my 88cc kit installed yesterday. Before I was struggling to keep the bike up in the air more than 10-15 ft but now I can just use the motor to keep it up, BUT it does make it easier to wad it up like I did earlier, lol. O well, nothing a new set of fork legs wont fix. The way I see it it is only money, it'll grow back, LMAO. Congrats on the pegs, what did you use for axles? I would like to make this my next mod so let in on how you did it. I know on a BMX bike, it uses a straight threeded axle so the pegs just screw on both sides but these have a bolt with a head on one side.

well the pegs are called "X-games Freestyle BMS Pegs".. they aren't threaded.. they just have a smaller opening on one end (that needs to be drilled out just a LITTLE to fit.. take your rear axle to napa and match it up with an 8.8 grade shoulder bolt.. standard thread, not metric and two washers and a new nut.. just make sure the bolt is about 1" longer than your old axle..

bolt it all up.. and voila.. $10

i;ve got an 88cc kit too! i love it! but i bought it like that so theres nothign for me to compare it against..

Great info! Sure beats the heck out of the $60 rip off kits out there. I love their reasoning too, "the bolt is hard to find and expensive to make" anyway great info just the same! By shoulder bolt you mean it isnt threaded all the way to the head right? Also what does "two up" mean?

two-up means two people riding..

Yes, shoulder bolt isn't threaded to the head..the blank surface is threaded at just one end..couldn't find one metric, so i had to get a standard thread..everyone was sayin it was really hard to make and really expensive and all that..i found like 4 places online to get them ranging from $3-$7.. then found them at Home Depot today..hahahaha..

some people say that their setup is a little stronger,..it just might be.. but for what I'm using it for, it works fine..

don't wanna dog on the guys trying to make a buck or two (or 60 in this case!) but a little ingenuity goes quite a ways..

the pegs aren't a direct bolt on, you have to drill out the hole to make it a bit larger...but thats pretty easy..

one thing that sucks about the pegs i have is that they are smooth all the way to the outside edge where it has a little bit of cross-hatching on it.. i wish the whole thing was like that because if its cold or wet, your feet slide really bad on them..

yeah I was going to go with a set of these. I used to flatland and I cant stand pegs without enough "grip" to them. BUT if your thing is grinding then no grip is good.

oh, and did you put washers between the peg and the chain tensioners??? it seems like they are kinda cockeyed on there whenever i matched them up...bolt was too short anyway..

you can do what i did at first.. put just the left peg on.. remove your chain tensioners from both side.. drill out the peg and mount it up...but no, with your stock axle you can't use any washers..

and only the right peg will fit.. dont worry about the left because you'll want to stagger step so you can use the rear brake..

VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY true..

i'd love to find some flip up pegs.. used to have a set on my bms bike that mounted to the forks.. they were pimp..i wish i could find some of those and mount them back there somehow.. that way i could just flip em up when i wanted to ride hard..

my xr is lifted though so unless you are at full lean it doesn't catch..

well, ya, i've got them drilled out, i just want both on there, then plan to make a rear handbrake, my buddy bought one of the forum members bike's and its got a handbrake on it that works in conjuction with the rear, but i dunno where to get a 12mm 1.25m 220mm bolt except to order it....

Guys use grip tape! Thats what I use. Don't put it all the way around if your grindin. Just on the top. You can buy it at home depot or get a sheet at any skate shop. I get scrapes from skate shops, they will just give you the stuff. I put it on top to where it wraps around about 1/3 of the way. Leaves you pleanty of smoothness underneath for grinding, and keeps your feet on when wheeling. Plus I cut about a 1/2 to 3/4 inch off the end of the peg as well to prevent peg drag when cornering. Then grind then edges smooth as well. Last thing. I put bar ends on my 50, you know, the ones that you can get from a bike shop for like $10 to $15. You gotta cut the end of your throttle tube off but they have saved my bike alot of damage. Ya'll should check it out. L8'r
