Ticking 88

I have this ticking problem. Ever sence I slaped on the 88 kit, it Clicks, and ticks every time I start it up. I fallowed each step on the instruction too. I Dubble, Dubble checked the fly-wheel mark&cam-gear mark at 12,and 9 posession, adjusted the valve taps, screwed in cr8hsa model plugs, I tryed everything to fix the probelem and came up empty. Does anyone know why its tapping soo bad????????????????????????????????? And I already checked and dubble checked the valve clearence. Do you think I need new valves or valve springs?

I'm in the process of fixing that same problem, motor is torn down and I'm going through it to see what the problem is. I did notice some marks on the piston and there was a small chip in it. I'm ordering a new ring and piston and going to clean out the motor and see what happens. I've done all the obvious with the valves and still can't get rid of the ticking either

man.. that sounds to me like valve clearance. Its easy as hell to adjust, just go to an autoparts store and get the best quality metric feeler gauge set you can find. Instructions and clearance tolerances are in the manual that came with the fiddy. If you need the valve clearances I will look in my manual and post.

the valve clearance is a .002/.05 . and I have adjusted it and still doesnt fix the ticking. Its like it kinda fixes the ticking sound but there is still a notciable tick that eventually gets worse again

Re: Ticking 88

i just bought a fiddy off a forum member with an 88cc kit and he reassured me that a tapping sound is totally normal when the 88cc kit is installed.

I have had it 3 days and rode the hell out of it ... no tick until today. I cleaned the engine with Gunk Citris Engine Brite... I made sure not to spray the electric parts, intakes and carb....

Now its ticking louder than EVER! WTF?

Re: Ticking 88

dude you HAVE TO adjust the valves. it should have said that in the instructions. you need a set of feeler guages to do it takes 10 mins and that will solve your ticking problem. just my

Re: Ticking 88

thats regular maintenence bro. and u should never trust the other guy. its a thing that can be easily messed up. adjust them both to .002" (2 thousanths of an inch) not .05" (fifty thousanths of an inch) thats a common mistake. that is the metric equivelent .05 mm NOT inches. after u adjust them, spin the motor over a few times and check them again. good luck and be precise. a half a thousanth can make a differance.
