Rims

I am thinking about grabbin some rims for the GTP. I am looking at these rims right now and they're $948.00 (chromed) for the set (4). The same style rim (polished) is only $529.00. Does anybody have experience with the two? I have polished ones now and I'm happy with them but they're factory coated. I wonder if the aftermarket rims are coated (prevent damage & rust).

I can't see paying an extra $400 for chrome if polished is almost as good. Give me some opinions....

Here are the rims I'm interested in... 18"x 8"

Bri

Thumbs down Never had chrome but......

I spent a few days last year polishing the rims for my wrangler. It took a decent amount of time but once they were finished the looked mint. The problem is that they do not last long and you have to keep up on them. It takes an hour or two each month to keep them looking shinny. I think chrome would be better since all of the harsh New England weather we get but I never owned anything chromed.

On a side note I changed my axles over the winter and went to a new bolt pattern for my jeep. My rims no longer fit so anyone intrested PM me if you are looking for aftermarket rims for Jeep wrangler. I want to get rid of them and willing to let them go cheap. I have a set of 5 rims and the bolt pattern is 5 x 4 ½ (stock for wranglers). They look likes the American Racing outlaw II series.

If you're going to get them, go with the chrome. Polished wheels look pretty good when they are new, but unless you like to polish them every week, they will continually get duller over time. Plus, they'll never have the same *BLING* as chrome.

the one in crome are either 17s or 19s i think the factory ones are what 16s not sure on gtp size rims from the factory.
but i can tell u this anything less that $1500 for a set of chromed rims and your asking yourself for trouble.
most likly the chrome job has been done cheaply and in no time the chrome (not if) but will start to flake off.

unless u getting them from your friend for a sweet deal man. :D

on my car i have 17s that are a cross between gun metal chrome and silver. wierd color but they look nice. and they cost me 1700

same things in chrome woulda cost me around 2300.
i work part time at midway car center and we order rims alot.

i see chrome rims com in all the time that people bought for cheap price and there already starting to flake.

just my 2cnts

but yes the chrome look much betta.:D

Stock GTP's come with 16". I have high polished 16" on there now. They are factory coated so the quality of shine hasn't changed. I just hate the 16"... too small.

The black GTP in the pic above has 18". I e-mailed the guy to see what kind / price for them. I've decided 18" are the way to go....17" still look small. I don't want to lower my car because I ground out all the time as it is. I'd like to keep the same wheel radius but less rubber.

I'm keeping my stock rims w/ good tires for the winter. I just want to pick up some nice flashy 18" for the summer. I've had my car for 2-1/2 yrs and I need something to spice it up. I'm getting boring with it.

Eagle Tire (or whatever) have the 18" on special for October @ $239 / rim chromed. They also carry the same style rim "high polished" @ $135 / rim. So do I buy the polished ones or reach for the chromes? But you are telling me regularly $300 chromed rims are no good?

Maybe I buy the polished rims and have them cleared?

I have no idea?

Bri

chrome or polished is all in the one who has them.
u seem very content with the polished.
stay with them and save yourself some money.

it's all up to u in the end.
just depends on how much u wanna spend and what look your looking for.

Survey says..................

Bri,
From my knowledge of how you USE to be....the old Bri would much rather prefer the Chrome Rims. The maintenance alone is a good enough reason...then the look and quality of the rims are definitely the selling point as well. Chrome will make the GTP look more manly and beefy...lol
My recommendation is to go chrome.

Polish does not last in New England, road salt, sand, etc. Getting that gleam back is a bitch. Plus the durability is also a big factor considering Mass has a few potholes here and there. getting them cleared will only peel and yellow.

Shop around for the price, you're bound to find a better deal. Good luck

Sorry Tara...but the rims will look nasty.....just make Bri work more so he can make it up to you and take you on a sweet vacation.....hahhahahhahahahha

BRI-

GO FOR THE CHROME! POLISHED IS WAY TO HARD TO KEEP UP. UNLESS YOU WANT TO GIVE UP RIDING TIME TO CLEAN YOUR WHEELS! WITH THE CHROME ALL YOU DO IS SPRAY A LITTLE WINDEX ON THEM BAD BOYS WIPE THEM OFF AND YOUR GOOD TO GO! IT'S WORTH SPENDING THE EXTRA CASH, YOU'LL HAVE TO SPEND LESS TIME CLEANING AND YOUR WIP WILL LOOK MORE BLING BLING!!!!!!

MY BUDDY JUST BOUGHT A NEW CADILLAC ESCALADE EXT AND PUT 23" CHROME MKW WHEELS ON IT AND IT LOOKS EFFIN NASTY! TALK ABOUT BLING! BLING! WHEN YOU BUY A TRUCK LIKE THAT IT SHOULD COME WITH A FREE SUPPLY OF CONDOMS BECAUSE THE CHICS JUST STARE AND PRACTICALLY JUMP IN YOUR RIDE AS YOU DRIVE BUY!
