dont drain fluids

fill the tank and add stabilizer

winterizing

dont bother changing oil wait till spring you can fill tank and add stabilizer let it run for a couple of minutes then shut it off disconnect battery and your good to go thats all you need to do and if you can let it run a couple of times through out the winter to keep battery charged

Yeah, I agree with the rat on the oil change and gas tank.

If you're not going to run the bike till the spring - it's a good idea to take the battery indoors and throw it on a trickle charge once or twice throughout the winter.

If you want to get picky, it's not a bad idea to pull the plugs and sprays some fogging oil into the cylinders, then turn the engine over a few times (not starting it) to coat the walls.

. . . Just my $.02

You should change the oil before you let it sit all winter. Fact: the used oil becomes acidic after sitting for a long period, and will attack the engine internals. You do not need to replace the oil in the spring though.
The simple solution for this is to ride your bike in the cold like me.:D

I'll third the changing of the oil, it will break down over the winter. ITs cheap any way.

Also, its a good idea to pull the battery out and bring it inside, they can freeze and split. HAd it happen in my first bike that lived outside 3 winters ago, put some sweet stains on the frame etc.

If you are keeping it in a basement, put it on a block of wood, for some reason this is good for the battery. Then tricle charge it overnight before your first use. Good to go.

Chris

By the way, no way its time for that yet! We'll have a warm spell in novemebr, right before turkey day, we usually do.

ride year round. Get some winter gloves and call it even.

oil is oil.....new or old....It's going to break down. Just leave it alone til the Spring. Try and pull it into the garage with little or no gas because it will be "junk" in the Spring.

The battery will probably die too. Do something with that.

Bri

I never heard of oil turning acidic. It will break down - so why bother changing it until the spring? The full tank of gas will also prevent condensation(water) from collecting in the tank that will cause rust and well, water in your gas. Good point on the battery case splitting, too. I say just fill the tank with stabilizer and try to start it once or twice throughout the winter. Hell, you might even want to take it for a ride. Another thing is tires - if you can't get the bike up on stands and you don't won't flat spots to develop - give 'em a slight rotation a few times.

!

The guys at BCM ducati told me the used oil ,when not being run through the motor will turn acidic and start to eat the metal parts in your motor. True or not spend the 15minutes and change your oil dammit.

ive also heard used motor oil will become acidic and start to etch the internals of the motor if left sitting from a number of reputable sources. plus, by changing the oil you are ready to go for the spring.

i would fill the tank especially if you arent storing in a climate controlled area to prevent condensation. i fill it to the rim. add sta-bil stabilizer and shake it up and run it for a few minutes to get it into the float bowls. some people drain the bowls, i dont, and havent had a problem with it. with the gas stabilized im not worried about it for a few months, and it is less likely the gaskets will dry out.

winterize ...sminterize!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ride that beeootch....no matter what!!!!!!!!!!!!!

for the newbies...cold weather means cold street means cold tires...mean oooops accident....warm up you tires before you lay on the throttle. Watch out for black ice as well. Snow banks are not that fun to crash into..usually solid underneath...seen it happen b4. Ride with a Brain!!!!

hey now I won't know the difference from the numbness in my hands...whether it's from the accident or from frostbite...sweeet!!!

For the stay at homers.....get stands or rotate the tires each month..trickle charge the battery in the house...change the oil in spring.....aaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhn eeefff.....it get that beast on the road where it belongs.

That is ******* BAD-***!!!

Now I know what I'm doing with my old tires. That doesn't look that hard to do - a couple hundred bolts, nuts and washers and you're good to go!

Bring on a blizzard!!!

Some thermals with a full leather suit and you're good to go. You can get a full suit for around $400 at Brockton cycles. I hate referring people to them, cause they are dicks - but they do have good prices.

Ok people
#1 Its way to early for snow

#2 The shed is full with 4wheelers +its not heated

#3 I told my Mom that I was rolling my bike in to her house in the spear bedroom (that didnt go over to well) she told me to put it in the basment, is that a good or bad idea?

As of this moment its out side coverd but I dont want it there all winter.
I dont want my tiers to be bad come spring. Its my first bike and I would like to keep it for a little while.
If there was enough room in my bedroom I would roll it down the stares and keep it in there, but theres not.
Whats the best idea you can give me?
